My Dear Husband,
I have received your letters from Sare Warrin, and [she] said you were well on your legs. I am surprised that Tobyas ten Broek could be so stupid to come along with the surveyor without your consent. I say it is a big stupidity, but I always told you that we would be vexed by them like that. I will talk to Ghysbert. There is so much rain every day that I almost haven’t gone anywhere. And it is such a rain all day that I cannot get to uncle Arent’s; [I] would have gone today, but it is raining again. Our Gysbert’s negro had run away. When they caught him again [they] beat him very much, and [within] 10 days [he] died out of doggedness. And [he] has a lot of damage by it. Little Alida has been ill for as long as she has been with me in New York; [she] starts getting somewhat better now. Herewith [I] will break off and commend you in the protection of Most High. Your Beloved Wife Alida Livinghston.
The Governor cannot come to an agreement with the Jersey Assembly. Regards from Alida Veets1). April 22, 1721. Notes: 1) More commonly spelled: “Vetch”.
