Show/hide Head Quarters } April 8 1818 Disrt South } Fort St Marks } Sir - I embrace an early opportunity of returning you my thanks for your prompt attention to my communication in January last - The cooperation of Capt McKever and squadron has been of the most essential service to me, and his skilful management in securing the persons of Francis or Hillis Hajo and Hemalllemico two of the principal Instigators of this savage war merits the approbation of our government - I have requested Capt McKever to extend his cruise as far east as the Sewancy river, and then return to Orleans, toutching in the Appalachaida Bay for the conveyance of dispatches to Fort Gadsden - As soon as Capt McKever is reinstated in command of the Ketch, I have to request that he may receive instructions to communicate with me at Fort Gadsden, there to concert such additional [inserted: measures of] cooperation as may be necessary to put a final close to this savage war - I remain [2] respectfully, your obt servt Andrew Jackson Comd D Patterson Major Genl Comdg U S Navy - Presented to Genl M T. McMahon by R. N. Patterson USA, grandson of Com D. Patterson Feb 4' 1891 [address leaf] Comdr. Danl T Patterson U.S. Navy New Orleans
