Show/hide Hartford, Ct. Octo. 6, 1861 Dear All, I rose early this morning so that I might get any reports from Camp Buckingham & be back in time to dress for church - Mr saml Colt was coming for me at 11 oclock - but I found down stairs that Sunday breakfast is not till eight. I therefor did not get under way for camp till nearly nine. The "Governor" was "finding his oats" so the grass did not grow under our feet and after making out about one half the captain's reports myself, and a quick ride back and a hurried dressing, I was ready just in time for Mr. C. went with him to Mr - 's (I have forgotton the name) church. he was a missionary family & I remembered his speaking in N - at a ?? spoke of the need for christian physicians at the mission. The sermon was short & earnest, I liked it much. after which a young man & lady joined the church & then the sacrament was administered. the service was very solemn The young man admitted was Parish a member of the glee club from Lab that sang in Norwich last summer, he sang the sausie parts. went to dinner with Mr. Oliver Coit found Lizzie Webb & a Mr. and Mrs. Snuberly there. Mr & Mrs C & my self eat in the parlor when we first reached the house with the 3 little children. Mr C asked little Mary why she did not want to to & then I laughed, so to make things better Mr C asked if she knew we had come & Mary said yes. I laughed again & wanted to say children & fools speak the truth. staid with the Coits till three o'clock & leaving them at the church door came to the hotel & have spent the afternoon with my testament & soldiers hymn book. It is a very warm day & I do not like to go to church in full uniform. Have thought much of you & home to day, wish could look in upon you all [written vertically on third page] I forgot yesterday yo ask uncle George to remember me to Aunt Mary. As always give my best love to him. I would like to be home this week to help uncle G about the enumerations (I think it is this week) how much he has done for me. George knows about the Ransom Business you wrote about. Much love to all. Son & Bro Chas
