Content Description | Discusses a visit with C.W., possibly Charles Woodward Hutson, his nephew, at the University of South Carolina. Reminisces about his time as a student there eight years earlier. Reports attending a convention also attended by "many men of influence from the State" of South Carolina. Discusses speeches made by Chancellor John Inglis, James Chestnut, Jr., and Wade Hampton. Mentions meeting Livingston and Sallie Wigg. Hutson was a Corporal, 1st South Carolina Infantry, during the Civil War. Theodora was his wife. Inglis attended the South Carolina Secession Convention and chaired the committee that adopted the Ordinance of secession. Chestnut and Wade were generals in the Confederate army. Incomplete letter. |
