Relates that the arms "were given in the year 1274, to George Lorimer of Burnt Island in the time of Alexander the third of that name King of Scots, for his valiant achievements in jousting with the Earl of Pembroke... for his singular valor he obtained, argent a Laurel, signifying victory between two cinquefoils, the crest for his dexterity in riding a white horse at a vault.
