Content Description | Writes from "Home" to his brother-in-law, saying that he "was very much pleased to have the honor of receiving a letter from the Honorable J M Maitland, Rep of Champaign Co." Reports with great detail on the death of George Hopper, possibly a family friend or relative. Tells him that "I should like very much to see you in your new station I suppose you fill quite a conspicuous seat in the house of R first because you are a man of fine personal appearance, and second because you have always been faithful and unyealding democrat, and I think that your honorable body of Reps could not bestow honors upon a more worthy person." |
