Transcript	Show/hide Washington Jany. 16. 1801 Dear Sir. The Senate will, in my opinion modify the treaty, by abandoning forever indemnification - by erasing the second Article - and by the same stroke destroying the old treaty & Convention - they will erase, I think it is the third Article - and insist upon the Insurgente &c - they will insert a proviso that - the Convention shall not impugn existing treaties and that the Convention shall die at eight years old - I inclose [sic] the papers to Mrs. Goodrich - that you may call & see her & read them - Give my respects to Mrs. Twining.
