Content Description Refuses payment on account the bill's author not having the authority to draw bills of exchange. The bill, written and signed by John Montgomery and George Clark on 7 August 1780, requests $235.60 for "Sundries furnished the Troops Belonging to the State of Virginia." A detailed bill, signed by Montgomery, appears on the verso. Jefferson signed as the Governor of Virginia.
