Additional Information | Notes: Not in Bergh. Estimates for the University of Virginia, such as the above, did not include the Rotunda. See Malone, Sage of Monticello, p. 374n, who cites the 1819 budget. In 1819 the University's Bursar calculated actual needs at an additional $80,000 for salaries and finishing buildings, but the Legislature only allowed the Board of Visitors to borrow up to $60,000; Ibid., pp. 374, 375. Malone does not seem to have been aware of this document. |
