Content Description | Wood, Mayor of New York City, informs Burr, Chairman of the Connecticut Democratic State Central Committee, that he will be able to speak at a political convention preceding the 1860 Presidential election. Written on New York Mayor’s Office stationery. Labeled ”private.” Wood also served as a U.S. congressman from New York (1841-1842, 1863-1864, and 1867-1882). He was an outspoken Peace Democrat during the Civil War. Burr was the founder of the Hartford Times, a Connecticut newspaper. He served as a Connecticut Delegate to the 1864 Democratic National Convention. |
