Title | Franklin W. Fuller to Mary sending his thanks and condolences |
Date | 28 August 1863 - 29 August 1863 |
Author | Fuller, Franklin W. (fl. 1861-1865) |
Document Type | Correspondence |
Content Description | Written at camp near Stephenson, Alabama. They again have marching orders and are liable to leave at any time. Writes that he has received some of the items Low's family had sent him. The boots and socks were most appreciated. He is very thankful for Mary for her years of devotion. He feels that she will be subject to "ridicule and unpleasant remarks by ill natured and unsympathizing people" for helping him so much. He is very grateful for all that she has done for him. He is also thankful for Mary's mother doing all she can to help him. Writes that he will do all he can as Mary's husband and her son-in-law to support her in "her declining years." He expresses his condolences that another death has occurred in her family. Writes that he is not certain where the army will go now. The army "pioneers" are building a pontoon bridge across the Tennessee River three miles below camp. There are rumors that a large rebel force is on the other side of the river. They may come into contact with them unless the rebels retreat, "as usual." Talked with one of the lieutenants about home. He still has not received a letter from Milton or Amanda. Troops were moving out all night. |
