Title Mary Howe to Henry Knox about her dead husband
Date 5 March 1782
Author Howe, Mary (fl. 1782)
Recipient Knox, Henry
Document Type Correspondence; Military document
Content Description Written by a widow of a dead soldier [Captain Lieutenant Baxter Howe] to Brigadier General Knox. Thanks Knox for his kind words and concern after the loss of her husband. Knox seems to have taken care of Mr. Howe's personal effects for Mary. Says she is awaiting "Capt. Lieutt. Hubbell" so she can "make a Settlement." Tells Knox that Mr. Howe probably had a months pay on him, as he was recently paid at Head of Elk, Maryland. Says she needs the money and asks that he speak to Captain Hubbell to settle the issue. Written from Mine Brook, which seems to be in Massachusetts. See GLC02437.01206 for Knox's condolence letter to Mrs. Howe.
