Date | 15 January 1791 |
Author | Knox, William (1756-1795) |

Content Description | Copy. Describes the various transportation obstacles that prevented his letters from arriving earlier. Says the St. Lawrence lands are being advertised in two prominent Irish newspapers. Discusses the meeting he had with "the Earl of Westmoreland, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland" (John Fane, 10th Earl of Westmorland). Says they discussed trade between Ireland and America, and that he will write more about his encounter with the Earl and on the English administration of Ireland at a later time. Asks Knox to thank Mrs. John Jay for introducing him to the "Viscountess Stronghold," whose husband thereafter invited him to dinner. Mentions he will send a letter to Thomas Randall to "propose to let the amount of my Bill on Mr. Webber remain upon interest until I have it in my power to pay him, which I hope will be in the course of two years." Below the letter it is noted: "The above is a duplicate sent from hence on the 24th January under cover to Mr. Brett in London to go by the February Packet finding the Baltimore did not sail as was advertised she would." This note is dated 13 February 1791. See GLC02437.04829 for the original letter. |
