From Archive Folder | The Henry Knox Papers [0130] April-June 1796 |
Title | Henry Knox to Timothy Pickering declining the job offer and recommending others |
Date | 14 April 1796 |
Author | Knox, Henry (1750-1806) |
Recipient | Pickering, Timothy |
Document Type | Correspondence; Government document |
Content Description | Writes that he sent Pickering another letter officially declining the offer of a position on the committee to negotiate the boundary between Maine and Canada. Declares that if they are unable to secure another suitable commissioner, and one is needed this year to begin negotiations, he would find no objection in serving out the year until a new appointee is found. Suggests that Judge [James] Sullivan may be a suitable replacement. Touches briefly on negotiations with England. See GLC02437.06704 and GLC02437.06706 for related information. |
