Content Description Discusses a difference that arose between Captain Samuel Nicholson and Colonel George Claghorn, the ship's builder. The men almost came to blows after Claghorn allowed visitors on board the day before the ship's launching without Nicholson's permission. Signed by both Nicholson and Claghorn. Additional Information Nicholson superintended the construction of the USS Constitution and was her first commander. The ships named USS Nicholson are named after him and other members of his family. Claghorn was a Revolutionary war soldier and later a shipbuilder in New Bedford, Massachusetts. He is most famous for building the USS Constitution.
