Content Description | "An Act to incorporate the Subscribers to the Bank of the United States" is reprinted on the front page. So is "An Act Regulating the number of Representatives to be chosen by the States of Kentucky and Vermont." The first act established the First Bank of the United States, and lists the rules pertaining to the bank. The second act states that, for the moment, both states will receive two representatives in congress. |

Additional Information | The Gazette of the United States was established in 1789 by John Fenno. The paper supported President Washington and the Constitution. It was founded in New York, but moved to Philadelphia in 1790. The paper engaged in a heated war of words with Jeffersonian newspapers in its early years. The Gazette ran continually until 1818, except for a brief hiatus in 1793. |
