Author | Wayne, Anthony (1745-1796) |

Content Description | Countersigned by John Mills, Adjutant General on p. 5. Report of the General Court Martial trial of Edwin L. Harris of the 1st Sub Legion held from 17-23 November 1795. Harris is charged with fraudulently obtaining money from the public. The orders list the specifications of the charges against him, including repeatedly charging and receiving money from the United States for his pay, rations, and subsistence as an Ensign in the Legion when he knew he was not entitled to it or had already received it. The court found him guilty of two of the charges, sentenced him to pay the government $64.75 and dismissed him from service. The court sentence also declared that his crime be published in the newspapers but the Commander in Chief remitted that part of the sentence due to Harris's youth and good family. Wayne was the general in command of the United States Army in Greeneville, Ohio. |
