Content Description | Written by order of General Sherman but signed by J. H. Hammond as Adjutant General. Assigns Brigadier General Jacob Gartner Lauman commander of 6th Brigade. Provides for the garrisoning of Fort Pickering by three regiments of regulars and one or two companies of sick and wounded. Requests that the post Quarter Master provide a storehouse, so that the men about to march may leave their excess baggage behind. Directs the men to be ready to march by 26 November. These maneuvers eventually culminated on Sherman's assault on Chickasaw Bluffs, an early part of the Vicksburg campaign. |
