Sir. 19. Tripoli March 19. 1809. From the delay of the dispatch boat which bore to you my letter of the 5. Instant it has been conjectured that the unwillingness manifested by the female part of Sidi Ahmet's family to the proposed visit of their son still prevails; their longer detention therefore of the vessel which is to carry His Excellency to Derna has been deemed unnecessary. In the event however of the arrival of His Excellency's son here, he will be re embarked for Malta with all possible dispatch, so as to cause the least delay to their final departure. Hadge Hamet Massen in charged as special messenger to Sidi Ahmet, and the Chouas Hamieda who accompanies him on the occasion, together with the Sheiks of Derna, are instructed to attend His Excellency to his Government. I am disposed to consider the appointment of these persons, particularly the former personage, as highly complimentary to Sidi Ahmet, and it is no less flattering to me. It now only remains for you to facilitate as much as possible their embarkation and to embrace yourself the first occasion for Tripoli succeeding their departure.- Herewith you have enclosed a letter to His Excellency.
