Additional Information | Blair established the Washington Globe newspaper in 1830. He remained editor throughout the presidencies of Jackson and Van Buren. However, with the election of James K. Polk, Blair was forced to sell his interest in the paper in 1845. Welles was the editor of the Hartford Times newspaper from 1826-1836 and was Secretary of the Navy from 1861-1869. |
