Additional Information Eustis was a surgeon in the Revolutionary Army and also in the expedition sent to suppress Shays’ Rebellion in 1786 and 1787. He served in the Massachusetts State House of Representatives (1788-1794), was a United States Representative (1801-1804 and 1820-1822), Secretary of War in the Cabinet of President Madison (1807-1812), and was Governor of Massachusetts (1823-1825).
