Content Description Asks Knox to send him "about 25 pounds of ten penny nails" in order to complete General Louis Du Portail's quarters since he had asked Colonel Timothy Pickering about them but now is asking Knox "because I can't get anything from the quarter master." He apologizes for troubling him "about such a trifle" and sends his compliments to Lucy Knox.

Additional Information Gouvion was a Major, and later Colonel, from France who volunteered as a part of the Engineer Corps in the Continental Army. Du Portail was a Brigadier General and later, Major General after Yorktown, also from France, who commanded the Engineer Corps.
