Content Description | Reagan, postmaster general of the Confederacy, informs General Ruggles that his letter of 23 April (accompanied by a letter from Ruggles's son and a sealed letter to Confederate President Jefferson Davis), have arrived. Relates that he will present the letters to President Davis, and hopes Ruggles's son will receive the appointment he seeks. Notes, "The Enemy's gun boats are in eight or ten miles of this place, and have been exchanging shots with our batteries yesterday and to-day." Written on Confederate States of America, Post Office Department stationery. |
