Title John Jay to John Adams with updates on life
Date 31 January 1818
Author Jay, John (1745-1829)
Recipient Adams, John
Document Type Correspondence
Content Description Marked copy. Written by Jay to Adams when both were in retirement. References Adams' letter of 9 January 1818. Mentions that his son and daughters just returned from a tour of New England and that they enjoyed the hospitality of Adams. Discusses assertions made by William Wirt in his new book (probably his 1817 biography of Patrick Henry). Wirt was making claims about the authorship of various revolutionary documents produced by the 1774 Continental Congress. Adams asked Jay for a correction of the record. Unsigned, except "Mr. Jay" in text. Quotes at length from journals of Congress. Docket is by Jay.
