Invoice for Madeira wine. Same as GLC 2794.013, except this copy lacks the invoice included in GLC 2794.013. Including two letters from John M. Pintard, both dated 19 January 1791. "I have established a House of Business under the Firm of Pintard, Weston & Co. . . . . I feel a particular pleasure in having the honor to supply the President with the Madeira wine he may want." Mentions an invoice (missing). First leaf contains letter (by Pintard?) dated 7 December 1790: "I have established a House of Business under the Firm of Pintard, Weston & Co.," selling and shipping Madeira wine. Pintard solicits business from George Washington through Lear.

Show/hide Madeira 7th. December 1790 [secretarial:] Tobias Lear Esqr. Sir I take the earliest opportunity of informing you of my arrival at this Island, where I have established a House of Business under the Firm of Pintard, Weston & Co. - I have to tender you an offer of our best Services here, assuring you that a particular attention to the quality of the Wines we ship: and a punctuality in their Execution of any Commands entrusted to us: ok all be our Constant Study. I presume by the time this reaches you, that the Presidents Wine will want rep[l]enishing: a line from you at any time to our House: will be punctually attended to: and I beg the favor of you to inform the President, that the greatest care imaginable: shall be taken in the choice of the Wine He may choose to order. I feel a [2] a [sic] particular pleasure in having the honor to supply the President with the Madeira wine he may want for his Table use: and he may rest assured He will never have any reason to complain of Price or quality: while I continue to have that Honor. Mrs. Pintard joins me in best Respects to you & Mrs. Lear & wish you the Compliments of the approaching Season. We beg to be presented to the President & Mr. Washington. I am with Respect. Madeira 19th January 1791. [autograph:] Sir The foregoing is [a] copy of what I had the pleasure of writing on ye 7th ultimo since when a favorable opportunity offering for Philadelphia. I have taken the liberty to ship two pipes of choice wine for the President. they [sic] go cosigned to my friend Mr. George Meade of Philadelphia who will deliver then to you whenever you please to [3] to demand them. they [sic] are of an excellent quality and I am certain will please the president. Should the president not choose to receive them My friend Mr. Meade [struck: will] has our direction to dispose of them. Their [sic] amount being L [pounds] 70 [illegible] (exclusive of the freight and duties) you will be Pleased to Pay to Mr. Meade. Should any of your friends wish for a supply of wine for their own drinking I will esteem it a favour if you would recommend our House to them assuring you that you may rely on the quality of the wines we ship being good I am with great respect Sir Your Most Obiedt. Humble Servant John M. Pintard Sir Madeira 19th. January 1791 Resen[d]ing you to the foregoing [illegible] (our [4] our [sic] John Marsden Pintard we have now the Honor to enclose you [sic] Invoice of the Wine therein mentioned: which we have no doubt will please the President: being of an excellent quality. We shall always be happy to have the Honor of supplying Him with whatever Wine he may want for his own use and you may rely that the quality of the Wine we ship will recommend themselves.
