Title Jonathan Fuller to Henry Knox about his lands in the Waldo patent and interest in buying
Date 17 February 1789
Author Fuller, Jonathan (fl. 1782-1789)
Recipient Knox, Henry
Document Type Correspondence; Land transaction document
Content Description Written from Woolwich, likely in Maine. Hired a Mr. Noah Miller to do some agricultural work for him on land in New Canaan, in Lincoln County, in 1780. However, Fuller was unable to continue the improvements, because British troops took possession of some of the land, and deaths in the family and his wife's broken leg limited his ability to work. Meanwhile, a Mr. Charles Thomas began to sow seeds and burn brush on some of Fuller's land, despite Fuller forbidding him to do so in front of two witnesses. Thomas then sold some of this land. In 1785, the General Court passed measures regarding the Waldo patent lands, and Fuller has since learned that Knox had ownership of some of the lands and might be willing to sell. Asks that if he does want to sell, that he sell it to Fuller, and to let him know as soon as possible whether he can purchase it.
