Content Description | Writes that by keeping in contact with home the soldiers and those they left at home feel better. Explains the anguish felt while waiting to hear from loved ones or friends after a battle. Hopes that General Ulysses S. Grant will "hurry affairs" in Tennessee. Hopes that the Union will soon liberate their fellow soldiers in the rebel capital Richmond, Virginia. Wants to see Confederate President Jefferson Davis defeated. States that the rebel leaders should get the "rewards of treason." Writes that it is doubtful the rebels will get such a treatment as the people in Washington, D.C. will most likely only force them to take an oath of allegiance. Thinks this is wrong and that the traitors should be forced to pay for their crimes. Writes that the farmers are preparing their fields for planting. Writes of the nice weather at home and wishes that Franklin was home to enjoy the it. Writes that a girl Franklin was fond of married another man because she did not want to grow old waiting for him to return. |

Additional Information | Franklin W. Fuller from Howard, Illinois enlisted on 14 August 1862 as a Sergeant. He mustered into the I Company of the Illinois 74th Infantry on 4 September 1862. He was mustered out on 10 June 1865 in Nashville, Tennessee. |
