Content Description | LaMarquisie (also "de la Marquisie"), a Frenchman who had served as a captain of engineers in the Continental Army, asks the Massachusetts Society of Cincinnati for financial aid. The former officer, "persecuted in France during the Revolution," writes that he needs money to travel from Boston to Philadelphia, in order to pursue his memorial before Congress. The first letter, a summary of his military service during the Revolutionary War, includes mention of his journey to Canada with American commissioners Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Chase and Charles Carroll, his engineering work at West Point under Kosciuszko, and the various generals he fought under. |
