Title | Letters from Thomas Jefferson de Yampert to James W. Hale, to Sarah W. Hale regarding several matters, including Sarah's visit |
Date | 3 July 1832 |
Author | de Yampert, Thomas Jefferson (fl. 1828-1835) |
Recipient | Hale, James W. Hale, Sarah W. |
Document Type | Correspondence |
Content Description | There are two letters within a single folio. The first letter is to James W. Hale, and expresses regret that Sarah's time with them was not as pleasant or beneficial to her health as they had hoped. He goes on to discuss his attempts to find work for Horatio as a clerk. The season was poor and many people in need of clerks already have them, but he did find one person who was willing to take Horatio on under de Yampert's recommendation if his current applicant fell through. The second letter is to Sarah W. Hale. He suggests that she is happy to be home and free of "us Southerners," but adds that he does not blame her for going back to where she felt she would be happiest and says that many were sorry to see her go. He also says that he intends to write her a longer letter soon, and write to Horatio as well. He chastises her for not telling them the name of Horatio's wife, and mentions that his daughter Sarah remembers and misses her. There is also post script on the side of the paper containing the address to Sarah. A small part of the letter is missing from where the seal once was. |
