Additional Information Founded in 1770, the spy was intended to be non-partisan, but as unrest in the colonies increased it sided with the colonists. Initially published in Boston, the paper was forced to relocate to Worcester to avoid British disapproval. The paper had a circulation of about 3,500. Also known as the American Oracle of Liberty. Isaiah Thomas was a publisher who also served during the American Revolution. He performed the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence in Worcester, Massachusetts.
