Content Description | Inscribed by Whitman to his sister Mary. Signed "To my dear sister Mary / From her brother Walt with his love" on a page marked "Remembrance Copy." Published by Whitman as "Author's Publication." Printed by New Republic Print on Federal Street in Camden, New Jersey. The book is a compilation of Whitman's notes from the end of 1862 to 1865 during his visits to the sick and wounded in hospitals in and around Washington, D.C. Mentions seeing Abraham Lincoln almost everyday on page 22. With inserted advertisement for Whitman's other books in back. Original purple cloth cover wrapped in mylar. Gilt page edges. Two illustrations of Whitman at front, one as a young man and one as an old man. About 100 copies printed. |
