Additional Information | The legendary 9th and 10th Cavalries, known as Buffalo Soldiers, were raised in 1866. Following the Civil War, Buffalo Soldiers were primarily engaged in conflict against Native Americans on the Western Frontier. In 1872, the 10th Cavalry was located in the vicinity of Fort Sill, near Rush Springs, Oklahoma, which was called "Indian Territory" at the time. In fact, the 10th Cavalry were largely responsible for building that fort. |
