He both complains about certain actions by Brownson and begs his forgiveness for a misunderstanding in which Brownson apparently took offense. In part: "...I hope to convince you that you did me an injustice in harboring a suspicion....With respecting to your appointment as Surveyor I am afraid I have done you an injury without intending it..."
