On page two there is a reprinted letter sent to Frederick Douglass by a white man stating he is willing to marry Douglass' daughter for $15,000 or $20,000. Douglass' reply refusing the man's offer is also printed. Also printed are excerpts from Framley Parsonage, a book by Anthony Trollope and a sermon by Henry Ward Beecher titled, Religion and Politics. Other news includes local New York news, international news, information on the dry goods and cattle markets, public postings and advertisements. |
