Additional Information | Reformer-politician, Greeley used his newspaper to promote the Whig and Republican parties. He was a champion of the working man and attacked monopolies of all sorts. His newspaper fought slavery. He was theoretically against the Confederacy but thought the South had a right to independence. He took a radical Republican stance during the war, opposed to Lincoln's moderation. |
