Content Description | First English (London) edition with folding Fry-Jefferson map. This book is the first published edition in English (the first English language edition being privately printed by Jefferson in Paris). It was largely written in 1781 and first published in Paris, in French, in 1785. Written in the form of answers to questions about Virginia, Jefferson's book not only covered geography of Virginia, but also government, Indians and slavery.
