Content Description | US Army amber glass medicine bottle; bottle measures 9 1/4" high x 3 5/8-3 3/4" diameter at the base, the bottom of the bottle is slightly misshaped and has a dished center approx. 2 1/8" in diameter, inside the dish are the raised letters "SDS"; the lower 6 1/4" of the sides of the bottle are straight before gently curving into a rounded shoulder to form a neck 1 1/16" in diameter x 1" high, atop the neck is a narrow bead and a rounded lip 1/2" wide, the opening at the top measures 5/8" in diameter, no stopper; molded into the glass 11/16" below the shoulder are raised letters that read "U.S.A./ HOSP. DEPT", the combined lettering measures 3 9/16" long x 1 1/8" high; bottle appears to be hand-blown into a mold (seams appear down opposite sides of the bottle), an imperfection to the left of the lettering results in that seam being slightly recessed at the center, numerous tiny bubbles are visible in the glass including several larger eye-shaped bubbles on the left side of the neck and bottle; glass is cloudy in places on the inside; bottle was recovered from the moat at Fort Pulaski, Georgia. |
