Content Description | Countersigned by Secretary of State William H. Seward. Dyer was convicted in December, 1859, and sentenced to the jail at Plymouth, Massachusetts. He remained in prison after completing his sentence because he was unable to pay his fine. He was pardoned at the request of Massachusetts politicians, Senator Henry Wilson, and representatives Alexander H. Rice, Charles R. Train, and H. L. Dawes. B. F. Hallett also requested Dyer's pardon. |
