Title Petition re: reimbursement of 15 barrels of Powder
Date 13 February 1695
Author Peyster, Abraham de (ca. d. 1768)
Document Type Business and financial document
Content Description 15 Barrels of Gunpowder owned by de Peyster, while stored in the New York City magazine, were requisitioned by Jacob Leisler during his tenure at the head of the Provincial Government and never returned. De Peyster petitioned the Council in London for a reimbursement of the fifteen barrels, which was certified by John Nicholas and the petition verified by Governor Benjamin Fletcher (who pled that due to the on-going King William's War, reimbursing de Peyster would be contrary to the well being of the colony).
