Content Description Written by Major L'Enfant to Lafayette. Probably in reference to the problems he was having with payments owed to Parisian jewelers for badges made for the Society of the Cincinnati. The eagle insignias did not sell well among American officers when L'Enfant returned to the United States in 1784.
