Content Description Thanks Knox and his wife for their kindness and friendship, particularly toward his daughter, "my sweet Beth" (Elizabeth Bayley Seton). Writes, "I have often whisper'd to myself that I would rather be a door keeper in your House; even at Philadelphia, than a New York Doctor."

Additional Information Dr. Richard Bayley was a prominent physician in New York city from a prominent family. He is the father of Elizabeth Bayley Seton who converted from the Episcopal church to Catholicism and founded the American Sisters of Charity. She is also the first American-born saint to be canonized.
