Content Description | Signed photograph of Grant as Lt. General, taken by Frederick Gutekunst. Standing portrait of General Grant with his left hand in his vest, taken in the spring of 1865. Grant is wearing a black mourning band on his left arm in remembrance of Abraham Lincoln, who had recently been assassinated. Verso contains docket with autograph note signed by J. Harper and plate of Pittsburgh bookseller. Harper's note states that he got the autograph from Grant himself, and is giving it to a friend, Mrs. Chuffat. Same photograph as GLC01320.01. |
