The men almost came to blows after Claghorn allowed visitors on board the day before the ship's launching without Nicholson's permission. Signed by both Nicholson and Claghorn. Additional Information | Nicholson superintended the construction of the USS Constitution and was her first commander. The ships named USS Nicholson are named after him and other members of his family. Claghorn was a Revolutionary war soldier and later a shipbuilder in New Bedford, Massachusetts. He is most famous for building the USS Constitution. |
