| Content Description | Includes some correspondence handwritten on tissue paper. This correspondence lists the date, name of the recipient(s), body of the message, and name of the sender(s). Other messages are handwritten on stationery of the American Telegraph Company, and are attached to thicker paper, bound within this volume. Company stationery contains the company address, terms and conditions of transmitting messages via telegraph, and the names of Cambridge Livingston as company Secretary, and Edward S. Sanford as company President. On the stationery, handwritten telegraphs follow the printed portion, complete with date, name of the recipient(s), body of the message, and name of the sender(s). Lists Washington D. C. as the location of the American Telegraph Company Offices, where the transmissions were received, while the stationery was possibly printed in New York City. Some messages are written on Office of the United States Military Telegraph stationery. The majority of messages contained within this volume are organized chronologically. Contains items related to approximately 57 transmissions. The cover indicates that this volume was bound by the United States Treasury Department. The tissue paper portions of this bound volume are extremely delicate. |
