Transcript	Show/hide Download PDF [draft] Extract of a letter, from the Count Augustus de Grasse to General Washington, to be laid before the General Meeting of the Cincinnati; from which the Count has been informed he is to expect his Answer. After mentioning the honours which the Comte de Grasse, his deceased father, had received from America, he proceeds: "Il seroit bien flatteur pour sa memoire: & bien agréable pour moi, de pouvoir conserver à son nom, une autre preuve de la satisfaction du Congrès. L'Aigle de Cincinnatus avoit etès originainment etablis pour perpetuer d'age en [2] age le souvenir de l'Independance Americaine. Daigné, Mon General, m'obtenir des Etats la permission de porter Celui dont ils avoient décoré Mon Pere. C'est une Grace que Je demande avec instances a Votre Excellence: et Je la Suplie détre d'avance bien persuadeé de ma reconnoissance.
