Title Thomas Cogswell to Henry Knox about horses for the artillery
Date 29 July 1782
Author Cogswell, Thomas (1746-1810)
Recipient Knox, Henry
Document Type Correspondence; Military document
Content Description Major Thomas Cogswell writes, "I wrote to the Quarter Master General on the 17th Instant in which I express'd my desire to know how the Artillery was to be furnished with horses, as we had but five on hand that would answer - Since I saw you at Head Quarters I received his answer of the 24th at Philadelphia, in which he writes thus "unless there should be a prospect of active Service, I presume Artillery horses will not be call'd for" - It seams by that, as though he was not made provision for horses, as was expected, and has no Idia of the Parks mooving, at present. it will be impossible to moove the Park without horses, but what ever you conclude upon so far, as is in my power, I shall cheerfully carry your Orders into execution."
