Additional Information | Notes: Bergh 16: 294-96. Dating and the last two paragraphs in angled brackets are supplied from Bergh, who regularizes spelling. The "late conspiracy" mentioned above is undoubtedly Aaron Burr's trial for plotting the secession of the western frontier which ended in September 1807. Congress enacted the Embargo Act, one of the principal measures intended to avoid the "storms & convulsions" of Europe, in late December 1807. |
