From Archive Folder The Henry Knox Papers [0102] September-October 1791
Title Thomas Randall to Henry Knox regarding a debt Knox owes him and news of Samuel Shaw
Date 24 October 1791
Author Randall, Thomas (d. 1811)
Recipient Knox, Henry
Document Type Correspondence; Business and financial document
Content Description Encloses an open letter to Mr. McConnell, agreeable to Knox's request in a letter of 19 October. Has calculated the amount due to him by William Knox (it is broken down on page 2 - the total amount is $916) and wants the money by 16 November. If he needs an extension until mid-December, it will be allowed. Is anxious about Samuel Shaw and "much chagrined" he has not written. As he was recently out of America, wants to know if a letter was sent to Knox. Reports that Shaw drew on him for £6,000 sterling, which he [Randall] accepted last September. Must remit that money to London by December. Will force him to make "great exertions" if Shaw does not arrive by that time with the funds. It will cause him great difficulty to make the payment "without prejudicing our speculations as I can make little or no sale of my teas." Will accept Knox's draft for $2,000.
