Transcript	Show/hide Download PDF Mount Vernon February 9: 1800 My dear Sir, Mrs Washington requests me to acknowledge the receipt of your letter to her of the 17th of January, and to assure you that she receives, with a grateful heart, the kind condolence of Mrs Knox and yourself, on her late melancholy and afflicting loss. - While she feels that consolation is only to be found in a perfect resignation to the Divine Will, she is sensibly affected with the tender sympathy of her numerous friends, and the evidences of sincere sorrow exhibited by a grateful Country. To Mrs Knox and yourself she begs her most affectionate regards to be presented with assurances that you have her prayers and best wishes for your present and future happiness, to which, with very great respect and regard, permit me to add those of, My dear Sir Your affectionate & Obedt Servt Tobias Lear General Knox
