Jan. 9th Ans. 10th Dear Sir I received before I left home several communications from the society for the Encouragement of Manufacture which has been organized in your city. Amongst them were some copies of a printed memorial with a request to have them circulated for signature. I did not pursue the course recommended because the Agricultural & Manufacturing Society of Cincinnati had previously proposed and circulated memorials of similar import and having about that period been elected to a seat in the State Senate I determined to exert myself to obtain an expression of sentiment favorable to the important object we have in view by the Legislature. I have the pleasure to enclose you the result, in the shape of Joint Resolution indicating the coarse which we wish Congress to propose. I should be wanting in Candour not to acknowledge that I have been converted to my present principles in favor of manufacture by the Luminous views upon this Subject which have been published by your society.
